Robert Arneson was an American sculptor who created very interesting work. Robert’s work was unique and stands out to others. He was known for his self-resemblance sculptures. The work of art I have chosen is a sculpture made by Robert. It resembles him, his face on a dog’s body. I chose this piece of art because it is very different, I have never seen an artist create work like this!

Robert Arneson
Robert Arneson was known for his sense of humor. He had many collections that were also featured in the Art Institute of Chicago. The Palace at 10am is currently on display at The Nelson Gallery
Robert Ameson
Robert Ameson was an american sculptor and ceramicist who is considered as the father of funk art and includes humor in his works. Most of his works included his face making different faces and on different bodies much like this one.
Robert Arneson
Arneson was born in California He graduated from Benicia High School and spent much of his early life as a cartoonist for a local paper. During the start of the 1960s, Arneson and several other California artists began to abandon the traditional manufacture of functional ceramic objects and instead began to make nonfunctional sculptures that made confrontational statements. The new movement was dubbed Funk Art, and Arneson is considered the father of the ceramic Funk Movement
Robert Arneson
I chose this piece because I enjoy typing on my computer. I could not imagine typing on one of these because of not having a backspace. I also enjoy how the "keys" look like fingers with nail polish on them. This piece was created in 1965. Additionally, I like the glaze that was used because it makes this typewriter look old. The gold hangings up top also pop because it looks metallic compared to the eath tone colors.
Robert Arneson
Robert Arneson was an American Sculptor and Ceramicist. He is considered to be the father of "funk art." He taught at UC Davis and among other schools. Much of his work includes self-portraits of him with different variations of disformities of his face. I chose this piece because I found it really creepy but yet interesting. I like the detail of the dog's body fur as well as his facial expression.
Robert Arneson
Hello everyone! This week we will be talking about Robert Arneson. Robert Arneson was born in California. He was an American sculptor and a professor of ceramics in the art department at UC Davis. A lot of his work contains many self portraits and even his large egghead sculptures bear a resemblance. I choose this piece below because the colors and realness stood out to me. I do not like how it is orange at the top of the head. I think that it should be a bit red to make it look like he is bleeding, but I understand that it is orange because the gun is shooting. This piece is very gruesome and something that should be in a horror movie.
Robert Arneson
Robert Arneson was a famous sculptor and ceramicist who was considered to be the father of Funk Art. He was born on September 4, 1930, in California. He studied at the California College of the Arts. Later in his life, he began working at UC Davis as a professor of ceramics, and he worked there for three decades. Arneson is best known for his Egghead series which is composed of odd and funny sculptures of faces that he installed around the UC Davis campus. His art can be found in many different museums around the US including the Chicago Art Institute, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many more.
I chose this piece because I thought it was interesting. It looks like he is talking on the phone but it also reminds me of a cyclops because of what is over his one eye.

Robert Arneson Blog
Robert Arneson is considered the founder of the Funk Art Movement, a strand of Californian Pop Art focusing on absurd images of everyday objects. He worked as a cartoonist for a local newspaper in California. He then was appointed professor of ceramics at UC Davis. The piece I chose is is Robert Arneson as a Clever Old Dog. The piece is definitely very different than the pieces we have studied already. It kind of creeps me out. I like the colorful extra pieces around the "dog." You won't find me sculpting my face and put on a dog's body!
Robert Arneson
Robert Arneson was an American sculptor and ceramic professor. He used to be a cartoonist for a local newspaper. However, now he is considered the father of the ceramic Funk Movement with his very animated and expressive style. In addition, Arneson focused on self portraits and an autobiography using clay, which I found interesting. I choose this particular sculpture because it was probably one of the few that I did not find completely disturbing. I liked the details of the work in the sculpture and the fact that it resembles a dog.

Blog
For the blog I chose this bowl with the little smashing tool thing. I like the glaze used on this with the simple design of a flower crossing the service. I also like that this has a purpose while still looking delicate, simple, and beautiful. I think the colors work really well and the look is very pretty.

Random Piece
For this weeks blog I searched "cool ceramic projects" and this is the first image that caught my eye. This was done by a high schooler which doesn't make me feel good about the projects that I have done. I like how it is a replica of his/her hand holding a flower. I like the details in this photo.
Blog #9
Sorry!!!! I did the dragon and HATED everything about it, did it again and still hated it! So I decided to make a plate since we don’t really have that. It is a chip and dip plate and it is slab and coil! Hope you’re not mad!!!!
Blog
I have decided to blog about this pretty vase! I enjoy the design and colors of this vase. It is very simple and could be very easy to make! I have a glaze color similar to this so I can make my final project like this. The flowers are a great spring design and this could be used as a flower pot/table decoration.
Blog
Hello everyone, we did not get a topic for this weeks blog so I decided to choose a ceramic piece of my own to talk about. Below is a picture of a slump bowl. I choose this slump because I love the shape and the colors. This ceramic piece reminds me of a flower blooming. I hope everyone had a great Easter break!
Blog
Since there was no topic I decided to blog about whatever I wanted. I choose the Sun Dipper. I like it because it incorporates my favorite thing...food. Each piece can hold dips like guacamole, salsa, french onion dip, etc. It is really cool because the pieces are detachable. So if you don't want to use all the dippers you can store them. I love the hand painting on it. It is a bunch of different slab pieces. It can be used as a great gift for a wedding or a house warming gift. It is definitely something if given the resources and time I might be able to recreate.
Ceramic BLOG
Since there was no instruction on what to blog, I decided to do this piece. I think this piece is very unique and creative. I love how the glaze makes it looks like several different colors. Additionally, I love that there are ripples to indicate texture on the dress. I thought it was very creative to create a plate out of the flow of a dress. I would buy this sculpture because it is elegant. I could try to make this but I would definitely fail because I do not have hours in a pottery place.
Gary Jacketti
Alright it is past 4:00 pm I don't think Jacketti is going to give us a blog topic. So for this blog I am choosing to do it on our favorite ceramics professor Gary Jacketti. I think he is a suiting topic considering he has taught us a lot about ceramics throughout he semester and tolerated our "satisfactory" work.
This is one of Gary Jacketti's sculptures which is displayed at West Point Military Academy. The statue is meant to represent kids who are separated from their parents due to them joining the military. I have no idea how he made it (maybe slab), but I am sure it took a long time to make. I think the sculpture has a beautiful meaning because being a psychology major I know it is hard on children who are separated from their main caregivers. Nice work Jacketti!

Final Project
I plan on making what was originally my slump project into my final independent project. I spent a lot of time on this piece and I think this is the best ceramic bowl I have created. It brings in the nature aspect into the art which I always loved and I liked the idea of adding acorns in the middle to hide the weird break where the leaves meet at the bottom of the bowl. Once I had my brown glaze on it then I am sure it will look a lot more like the fall.

I would like to try and make something like this. I like the solid color on the outside and the difference as you get to the center. I think it’ll be challenging to get the bowl to take shape of pedals, but i’m up for the challenge! I made a flower pinch pot as my first piece, so i’m hoping to that I can make a better piece with these new skills.
Final project
Hello everyone! My idea for my final project is to do a coil mug! I like this idea because the yellow is a gorgeous color. Also, this mug looks like a bees home. For my project instead of the mug being yellow I will glaze mine in blue. I wish everyone good luck on their final projects!
Final Project
This is my idea for a final project. I would make a flower pot that is simple but beautiful. I love flowers and i feel like a unique flower pot would be a good use of my time.
Final Project idea
I am interested in doing a project such as this one for my final. I like the candle cover we made so I would like to make a bigger one where you can see through it. I like the design of nature such as trees, flowers, and leaves, so I feel as if this design is in that range. I'm not sure if this would be a slab or wedge it and hollow it out, but I will have to figure that out.
Final project
For my final project I want to do a vase. The slab project was my favorite one we have done. I want to do something round this time that has a different shaped opening and then incise it when I am done.

Blog #8: Final Project Idea
I love this pot. I’m going to try to make it like a cup and make the tail into handle. I’ve been wanting to do this for such a long time so I’m really excited to try it! I dont know if it will work, but I’m going to try because I love it! I can’t believe this class is over!!! :(
Final Project Idea
For my final project, I want to make something similar to this picture. I want to make a coil coffee mug. I want to make something that I could use on a daily basis. Throughout the class, we have made a lot of pots and bowls so I want to try something a little different. For this project, I would use the coil technique and I am not sure yet if I am going to do a smooth coil or I might just let the coils show through. I am going to try to make the coils all the same in this project so that it looks perfect!
Finalllll
Final Project
I am hoping I can make this lovely mug for my final. I love the sea and think this would be a great mug to give to my mother.
Final Project
A coil mug. I really want a mug, I think we done everything but a mug. For my final project I would like to create something like the mug above with a handle.
Final project for Ceramics :(
I decided for my last project to make a turtle pot Ceramic bowl. I will use the pinch technique in order to make the inside of the turtle. Then I will use the carving tool to make the symbols in the head and in the shell. I will then smooth the inside and the shell. After that I will score and slip the head and legs to the shell to make it a turtle. I picked this ceramic as my final project because I like turtles and it seems very cool to make. My girlfriend will enjoy this ceramic in her room.
Final Project Idea
I decided to try something along these lines for my final project. I chose this idea because I thought it was interesting and original for me. The technique used for this pot is a pinch. I like the goofy look of the fish as well as the textures used to design it.
Final Project
I am doing this project for my final. It consists of me doing the slab technique. My project will have a different design as well as a different purpose. I have already started making it. I will be adding a lid to the cylinder part. I will use this in my future classroom as a supplies holder. Pencils will go into the cylinder part. I am doing a Game of Thrones design on the front, and I am not sure what I am going to do on the side.

Final Project Post
I plan on doing this technique for my final project. I love the imprint the lace leaves, I think it is very intricate and beautiful. I think it also unique because no one has done it so far. I plan on making a hump bowl, so the design will be on the outside, but then again I might want it on the inside because it would be a nice surprise to look inside and see that pattern. I would like to glaze it with my white color, or perhaps borrow a color from a friend.
Final Project Idea
For my final project, I want to make a vase. The reason why I want to do a vase is because we’ve made projects that can function as a bowl but I would like to make something large enough to hold flowers. I like the shape of this vase and could be made using the coil technique. I may even leave the coils and not smooth it out. Also, I really enjoy the simple texture this vase has with the lines carved into it. I would like my vase to be a moderate size and be functional for the most part.

Slump Pottery
Wednesday, April 10, 2019
I chose this piece because I love sunflowers! The colors go together smoothly so much so that it’s like a cohesive scene. Plus, there’s many different aspects to this. I’m going to try and make something like this because my first pinch pot with flowers was pretty successful. Slump and Hump seems like a complex skill but i’m sure we’ll be able to grasp it and make something neat!
Slump Pottery
This Slump pottery is very unique because it looks like a bowl and also like a big blue flower. I like how the edges looking flower pedals. The combination of the colors too. I find it very interesting and like I said unique.
Slumped Pottery
This is an image of "Daisy Bowl" which is apart of the "Glass" collection by L. Glover. Glover says that the photograph makes the bowls appear to be bigger than they actually are. They are 3 1/2 deep and 9' across. I chose this image because of the details, I like how there are little lady bugs on the sides, the yellow in the flower sort of fades away as the color get closer to the top, and it looks 3D.
Slump Pottery
I chose this bowl for the slump pottery. I think you can better understand what exactly slump pottery is due to the shape of this bowl. I also liked the face on the front and the way the bowl stands makes it look like it has little legs. I think its a fun, creative, and different twist on the classic slump pottery. I like that the rim of the bowl isn't perfectly straight and slick because it adds a cartoon quality to the bowl.
Slump Bowl
I chose this slump bowl because i like the colors and the edges on it. Slump bowls are created by placing the clay inside an already made bowl. You then roll it out and decorate however you want. I like how this bowl looks metallic and rustic. I would also add more texture to this bowl in order to make it more unique.
Slump hump
This is a hump piece of work. This form creates a convex shape. I chose this piece because the design is pretty interesting and unique to me. It is supposed to be a flower and I find the intricacy of the bowl quite fascinating. The color of it is pretty interesting because green is not a common color for flowers.
Blog #7: Slump Hump
I love this idea for pottery. I think it adds a lot of detail and room for creativity. I was planning on doing a slump hump with a leave design, so I think this is a great example of that. Also, the design makes the bowel look like its a budding flower, and I like the idea of whatever is in the bowl being presented. The color is also really pretty and makes it kind of look like a cabbage. I wonder how the bowl was made to look like it had multiple layers but also make it look so smooth!
Slump/ Hump Pottery
We learned that Hump Pottery is another way of making a plate or pot. Hump Pottery is when you throw a hump of clay on the potter's wheel and you create a form from the top portion of a large hump of clay that you can then cut off. This process creates multiple forms all that one type of clay in the beginning. The part when the bowl is finished and it is time to cut it off. I have chosen this Hump Pottery because of how beautiful and well made it is. It looks like it had taken a long time to make and the colors they had used is outstanding and really shows the snake going around the bowl.
Slump or Hump Pottery
This pot is called a nesting bowl, which consists of multiple bowls having different sizes and fitting into each other. The artist used a bowl that was shaped like a satellite dish and created a slump and hump mold out of plaster. She made each bowl its own exact size with slab and made sure to keep enough space so that they all would nest next to each other. I loved the layers that the bowl appeals to have and also love the color and designs of the bowls.
Slump Pottery
I chose to write about a slump mold because I think that is the technique that I am going to use for my next project. Slump molds are concave forms, they are usually a bowl or plate. To make a slump mold glass is usually used and placed inside the kiln. The glass will soften and slump down into the bowl or plate. This can also be done using clay and one would drape the clay on the inside of the bowl so that it will take the shape.
I chose this slump bowl because I really liked the design that was used. It looks like the different colors are woven together. I also really liked the different colors that were used when creating it.

Slump Pottery
The pottery piece I picked is made using the slump technique. The piece reminds me of a flower. You can see the petals, which look very life-like. The glaze really makes the piece I think. I could not find the artist of this piece, but it is for sale for only $50. I think it would be cool to try and create a piece like this, even though it looks a little bit on the advanced side.
